I understand completely why I asked the electrician to shut the d…. fire safety system off. It went off on the most inconvenient moments. Due to lack of power it went on endlessly with its beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep

beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…

But then it was new. Now we’re used to it, and the EDP (Energias De Portugal) does its utmost, like the weather, by the way… beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..  beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..

Ok, yes, I get it, you city folk don’t realize that so much, I guess, but here in the country the electricity fails once in a while, and that has to do with the weather most of the time.    beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..

If it is bad wether, it used to be clockwork. A sure bet. Now it’s better. The last time we were out of electricity for hours, was in 2013. There was a severe storm in January, the most fierceful storm I have ever experienced, and then we were almost 24 hours cold-turkey without. Plugged out. Find out how you can see or do something, or amuse yourself.  beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep.

Now it is rare, just for a few minutes. Apparently they found a way to plug everything in again a lot faster.

This is not lack of electricity, anyway not for us, only for the system. Out of battery, the technician said. Of course it happened on a friday afternoon, around 5 o’clock. “Not possible before the weekend” he decided. “No problem, we’re not desperate yet”, I said boldly “but if you would have time on mondaymorning ….?”

.beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep…beep..beep…beep…beep…beep…beep.

If you’re not close, it’s not so bad. You don’t even hear it, it’s not really loud. Only at night, or during the day when it is really quiet (and it can be quiet for hours here), you are able to hear it quite well. Strange, because all those little birds are making the same noice, in fact. But that’s not disturbing at all. This is an alarming beep, a beep like: you should do something about it.

Close the door. Big difference. Lucky, there’re no guests and I am the only one who’s sleeping right in front of that house. No problem, earplugs in, goodnight! Monday everything will be fine again. The technicians will take care of it.
