Cooking in a Portuguese way

Portugal always have been a agricultural society, and this rich farm-life you notice well in the kitchen. A lot of soups, a lot of vegetables, fish, home-grown chicken and pigs, and everything fresh.

We use products from our own garden, or of people of whom we know they don´t use artificial manure or toxics. Everything pure nature. We go to the "green" butcher, we buy the fish straight from the fisherman at the beach of Costa de Lavos.  Vegetarians will not  be forgotten: allthough it is not typically Portuguese, we have some experience with cooking a nice vegetarian meal!

This week is a combination of laze away the mornings; to go somewhere to taste the new wine, to go to the market or have a picknick;  to enjoy massages or the water of the Termas, and later on, with  a nice glass of wine, to cook a divine Portuguese meal.

In October, the season of the workshop, everything is there in a stunning abundance. And íf it coincidentally is not "of the season", we will have it in the freezer or in the store-room.

You can make yourself familiar with "Solar Cooking", and the use of the haybox. Those are energy-saving methods. The solar cooking is using pure solar energy with a prism with reflective material, and in doing so, making a kind of stove. It can take a while before the food is cooking, and than you can keep it warm in the haybox, untill it is time for dinner.

You can take home all recipes you will cook, during this week, together with all the tips and skills and other acquaintance you obtained. The result of a cookingsession can look like this:

You stay in a hotelroom with private bathroom, or in a guestroom, with a choice of bathrooms downstairs in the bathhouse. The toilets of the guestrooms are upstairs, close to the rooms. A hotelroom is based on staying with two persons per room, a guestroom can be individual.
